BN is not helping poor farmers in Sarawak
BN false claim
When the price of rubber was high - $5-$7 per kilo, the BN State government claimed it is because of their good work. The radio was trumpeting it every day explaining the brilliance of BN policies.
Today the price of rubber is very low. Will the BN claim that the low rubber price is also caused by them? If the former is true than the latter should be true that the price situation is directly attributed to BN initiatives.
We all know both are nonsensical BN claims. BN can fool the uneducated farmers but they cannot fool those who understand economics. BN leadership has stooped so low in trying to impress the poor folk by blatant lies when in actual fact they have done nothing to raise rubber or oil palm prices.
What is BN doing for the poor farmer now?
Jabu should be heading a taskforce to help poor farmers. Unfortunately old age and lack of knowledge by Tan Sri Alfred Jabu anak Numpang would hinder his ability to perform as a senior Minister. Might as well he fades away quickly before the next state election. Better not to overstay your welcome.
By now Tan Sri Alfred Jabu anak Numpang should be thinking of:
• providing minimum allowances to small holding farmers - at least $200.00 per month
• lower down the price of fertilizer by 50%
• increase government aid for subsidize seedlings
• create a price subsidy for rubber and palm oil through the “windfall tax” of palm oil /rubber
• do something - BN MINISTERS -just do not sit in your big comfortable office and talk down to the poor people.
Why are we suffering so much poverty in rural Sarawak?
It is because of the misuse and abuse of State assets and natural resources by BN State government. This Sarawak State government has even achieved and adopted a “refine methods” of taking State resources ( 12 dams, timber replanting, issuance of provisional lease for plantation ) that are legally correct but MORALLY WRONG as these projects allow a selected group of people to enjoy.
These selected Groups of people are Pehin Seri Abdul Taib Mahmud household members and relatives, political family members of the State Cabinets and Elected Representatives themselves. Politic to them is the venue to abuse their power and rape the Sarawak State of CONTRACTS and LINCENSE for extraction and mining of natural resources. Is that the reason why Sarawak voters elect them to the DUN?
It is a gross mismanagement of the State assets and natural resources. None of these projects benefited rural Sarawak at all. It brings many miseries though.
What did Rural Sarawak got from BN politic of development?
1. Lies
2. More Lies
3. Poverty
4. More poverty
5. Deceit
6. More deceit
7. Undermine personal rights of poor farmers
8. Suppression of Dayak adat and cultural practices
Even that is not bad enough. Now rural Sarawak suffers even more:
• dirty water from logging and plantation
• more sickness and death from logging
• more health problem from plantation chemical
• less food from the forest, protein from river and ikan Jabu is eating up
other species
• less raw material for local handicrafts used
Ask ourselves these questions?
• Did forestry and logging give us better roads infrastructure in rural areas?
• Has the quality of rural education been improved through extra earning?
• What economic growth has been generated in rural Sarawak through logging and plantation?
• What basic facilities (water/electricity) for the people have improved in logged out areas?
• What scholarship has been awarded to those in the logged and planted areas?
• (many more)
Look at those who benefit from logging, forest replanting and plantation.
• who has become filthy rich and control the print media - PBB and SUPP businessmen
• who has use the riches as an election war chest and undermine /marginalize the poor?
• who started to own large landed property when Bumiputera natives are not given land titles
• who has abuse and show disrespect of dayak cultures
• (many more - not written to avoid uncontrolled negativity).
Conclusion
Let us Sarawakian not look at small ethnics matters - we focus on the big threat that we are facing enforce upon us by BN.
It is also true that State Government are refusing entry to PR politician into Sarawak. It is an abuse of the special privilege clause. That is not what the “clause” is intended for - nevertheless, it is just a case of abuse of power in the name of the people of Sarawak.
BN should be more responsible when entrusted with the power to govern. BN should be working to solve the people’s problem as it is today that is cause by low rubber and palm oil prices for small holding farmers. The political leaders should be talking and listening to the people to offer help and assistance.
Today BN continue to play politics with Tuai Rumah and other category of Community leaders to instill fear in them not to go against the government. At least that is what YB Stephen Rundi is doing in Bintulu by taking advantage of the good office of the District Officer to organize political forum to carry political indoctrination.
